Laser therapy on back

Laser Therapy (LT)

LT is a very popular, efficient, safe and relatively new tool for the treatment of inflammatory (i.e. osteoarthritis, tendonitis, bursitis etc.) and sports injuries. Dr. Oz has called it the “no-pill pain buster” and is used by professional sports teams and athletes to treat inflammation, provide deep tissue therapy and accelerate pain relief to help athletes minimizes down time.

LT works to photobiostimulate cells within damaged tissue via specific wavelengths of light. Once the light waves reach the injured tissue a biological response is triggered such as igniting enzyme production, stimulate mitochondria, and synthesizes ATP and collagen to prevent scar tissue.

Conditions treated include, LBP, osteoarthritis/bursitis, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder, carpal tunnel, sprains and strains, neuralgias to name a few.

Ultrasound is a commonly used treatment modality used to provide deep heating to soft tissues in the body such as muscles, tendons, joints and ligaments. Deep heating of the soft tissue increases circulation to those tissues and helps with the healing procress and decrease pain.

Ultrasound is often use with tendonitis, bursitis, muscle strains, headaches, whiplash, sciatica, frozen shoulder, ankle sprains etc.

Interferential Current (IFC)

IFC therapy is an effective option used to help relieve pain and accelerate the healing process of damaged/injured tissue. The high frequency electrical (painless) current penetrates to the deeper muscle, ligaments, tendons etc. with the purpose of stimulating healing properties. Frequencies produced by the IFC trigger endorphine generation, the body’s natural pain killers. Other effects of IFC include reducing pain, inflammation, spasms and swelling.

Microcurrent (MC)

MC therapy uses very low-level electrical current to help treat nerve and muscle pain as well as inflammation. Each tissue type in our body has its own unique electrical frequency which is often disrupted by injury and/or disease. MC therapy helps restore normal frequencies within the cells, resulting in pain and inflammation reduction.

Kinesio taping method utilizes a unique tape that is applied over muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused, tired muscles and to support muscles in movement. It is not a restrictive type of taping and allows for a full range of motion. Kinesiotape can be used for anything including headaches, to foot problems and anything in between. Examples include sports injuries, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, tendonitis, low back pain, knee and shoulder conditions, etc.

Therapeutic Exercise

Effective and successful rehabilitation of the patient, regardless of injury, often will involve a multi-modal approach, consisting of manual therapy, a modality (i.e. IFC, ultrasound, laser) complimented with exercise therapy. I follow the SAID Principle, or Specific Adaptation in Imposed Demands Principle. In other words, the training or rehab program attempts to adapt the individual to the demands that they may experience in life, work or play.

Exercise therapy may consist of flexibility or Range of Motion exercises (i.e. PNF, Yoga dynamic stretches), strength exercises and proprioceptive exercises.

Exercise therapy is individualized, current, dynamic and the goal is to achieve restoration of function to the greatest possible degree in the shortest possible time.
